Renewable Energy Certificates

What Are RECs?

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are digital instruments that certify the generation of one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity from renewable energy sources like solar, wind, or hydropower. They enable organizations and individuals to claim renewable energy usage, reduce their carbon footprint, and support the global transition to clean energy.

Why Are RECs Important?

Drive Renewable Energy Growth

RECs provide financial incentives for renewable energy producers, encouraging further investment in clean energy projects.

Support Sustainability Goals

Organizations can purchase RECs to meet their environmental targets, enhance ESG performance, and demonstrate their commitment to sustainability.

Enable Carbon Neutrality

By buying and retiring RECs, companies can offset their carbon emissions and advance toward net-zero goals.

Certified under global standards like I-REC, RECs play a vital role in building a sustainable future. With Carbon Rush, you can access, trade, and benefit from RECs, making climate action more impactful and rewarding.

What is the I-REC Standard?

The International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) Standard is a globally recognized framework that certifies and tracks renewable energy generation. It ensures transparency, credibility, and standardization in the issuance and trading of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

The I-REC Standard provides a robust platform for renewable energy producers, buyers, and traders to demonstrate and verify the environmental attributes of renewable electricity. This system is widely used by organizations aiming to meet sustainability targets, enhance ESG performance, and transition to clean energy.

Why Choose I-REC?

Global Recognition

The I-REC Standard is accepted in over 50 countries, making it a trusted solution for international stakeholders.

Transparency and Accountability

All certificates are tracked through a secure digital registry, ensuring reliability and trust.

Support for Renewable Energy Goals

I-RECs enable organizations to demonstrate their renewable energy usage and support the global energy transition.

Registration and Issuance of International Renewable Energy Certificates (IRECs) for Projects

International Renewable Energy Certificates represent transferrable proof that one MWh of electricity was produced from renewable energy sources and added to the electrical grid.

Pakistan Environment Trust facilitates market entry for both buyers and sellers.

Purchasing an I-REC allows the buyer to claim consumption of one MWh of renewable energy. They can be to used to reduce Scope 2 emissions. The I-REC Standard ensures that all RECs are in adherence with major international sustainability standards including the GHGP, CDP, RE100, ISO, SBTi, and others.

I-RECs can be a significant source of additional revenue generation.

Once a REC has been sold, it cannot be purchased again.

No, I-RECs do not expire. However, the usability of an I-REC decreases drastically over time, which means it is relatively difficult to sell old I-RECs

Renewable energy projects or subsidiaries.

First, the company gets registered. Then, the company undergoes a registration process for each of its devices. This registration gets renewed every 5 years.

The final price per certificate, although affected by the market trends, are negotiated between the buyer and the seller.

No. Carbon Offsets represent GHG emissions reductions/avoidance. I-RECs convey use of renewable electricity from a low or zero emissions source.
